Leoni Torres, full name Leonardo Torres Álvarez, is an award winning Cuban singer, composer and producer. As a child he became fascinated by American R&B and Michael Jackson, and began performing in local venues at a young age. During a stint with the Maravillas de Florida orchestra, he drew the attention of David Calzado, the leader of Havana timba ensemble Charanga Habanera. Torres joined the orchestra as a singer and stayed for seven years before embarking on a solo career. His first album
Bajo La Piel was released in 2007. Fusing traditional and modern Latin pop, he incorporates salsa and occasionally reggaetón into his sound. Besides winning awards for his own releases, he was also accoladed for his writing on
Traidora, the 2015 hit single for Gente de Zona & Marc Anthony.
