Born in Curacao, pianist Randal Corsen is a passionate ambassador of Antillean music. Recently, Corsen recorded the CD Armonia with trumpeter Roy Hargrove. At the festival, he will bring to life the smoldering music of his CD, together with percussionist Pernell Saturnino and drummer Horacio “El Negro” Hernández. They will bring to the stage an outstanding combination of modern Jazz and Caribbean music. Randall Corsen is able like no other to integrate the typical rhythms of his island, as well as those of the other Antillean islands, into his own music of which jazz forms the basis. Corsen studied at the Tilburg Conservatory. He has composed and arranged music for vocalists Izaline Calister and Tania Kross, the Latin-jazz quintet Bye-ya! and percussionists Gerardo Rosales and Martin Verdonk. In 2004, Corsen received the Edison Jazz Award for Evolushon. He plays in a great number of small and bigger formations.
