Buika

Buika, a child of African political refugees, started singing and performing in her birthplace of Mallorca. She found a second home among the local Romani people which explains the diversity of styles and influences in her music. The singer blends flamenco, copla, jazz, rumba and soul, and yet she has also been heard as a vocalist on house tracks. And something else special: she worked as an impersonator of Tina Turner and The Supremes in Las Vegas, where she also performed with Rechelle Ferrell at Club Blue Note. Buika recorded her eponymous debut album in Madrid. Javier Limón produced her second and third albums, ‘Mi Niña Lola’ and ‘Niña De Fuego’. Buika’s latest album ‘El Ultimo Trago’ is a tribute to Mexican singer Chavela Vargas, and was made with Chucho Valdes. Last year Buika starred as a jazz singer in the highly acclaimed Pedro Almodovar film La Piel Que Habito
